Edina Cake Eater
I just heard of this from someone: type " Edina Cake Eater" in any search engine and up pops the Urban Dictionary definition for "Cake Eater"
Quote:
1. cake-eater 83 up, 5 down
Supposedly dubbed by Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution. When citizens complained to her that the peasants were starving and that she should give them bread, she replied, "Let them eat cake!"
It is now used as a nickname for all people who live in Edina, MN. Although meant to be an insult (for the dominantely white, rich, and stuck-up high school), many students from Edina now take pride in it. Example: An Edina sports shirt that read, "Cake: Breakfast of Champions"
This term is most well known by its reference to Edina native Adam Banks in "The Mighty Ducks."
Stupid cake-eaters, I hate them all!

I did. Your quote explains it all: Mighty Ducks yo! But I might have been more obsessed with this movie as a kid than others. Also referenced in Wikipedia article on Edina under "Edina today" section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edina,_Minnesota

As someone who grew up in the Lake Conference (Hopkins Lindbergh Class of '81), the term is not a new one. And the folks I know who went to Edina East still use the "Cake: Breakfast of Champions" phrase with pride. Green-blooded jerks.
Just found an interesting thread about this in another forum. Hopefully this doesn't go against the TOS (I don't think it competes with C-D):

And look at the end of the scrolling message here:

I love how people talk so much trash about Edinans, yet they're (mostly) no different than any other people in the twin cities. Its just a nice suburb to live in, quiet, yet close to the cities, and tasteful. Anyone who cannot appreciate this is, in my opinion, jealous and spiteful.
Go Cake Eaters!

P.S., if you wanna see true snobs in the midwest, go to Kenilworth, Lake Forest, Winnetka, or Oak Brook IL. Edina is upper middle class at best.

Another Lake Conference (Kennedy) alum here says that the dirty Cake Eaters will be forever remembered and hated deservedly for eternity for the cheap shot delivered on Henry Boucha from Warroad in a classic David v Goliath match for the State Hockey Championship in the late 60's. Typical cake-eater act.
Boucha played the entire game in the semis and led the US Hockey team to a silver medal in the '72 Olympics and was destined for NHL greatness. However, in 1975 while playing for the home-state Northstars, the dirty Boston Bruin, Dave Forbes, suckered him with the butt end of his stick in his eye socket ending his promising career.
Filthy-Dirty Cake Eaters.

I believe it...
But I also believe, in Minnesota, the culture does not encourage flaunting wealth. Many very wealth folks kind of fly under the radar by putting up a front that they are upper middle class, at best.

Edina is not the Edina of old. At one time they rivaled places like the Chicago suburbs. The places that you listed are the wealthiest in the Midwest. A few comparables in the TC are North Oaks, Dellwood, Chanhassen, and Shorewood. Not Edina.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++
Kenilworth, illinois

Lake Forest, Illinois:
According to a 2007 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was $150,670, and the median income for a family was $200,000+
Winnetka, Illinois

[9] In 2007, Winnetka was ranked by CNN Money as having the 4th highest median household income in the country. [10]. The 2008 CNN Money Top 25 Highest Earning Towns rankings failed to mention Winnetka due to an increase in the minimum population requirements.
Oak Brook, Illinois
The median income for a household in the village was $146,537, and the median income for a family was $169,718
++++++
Minnesota didn't even make this city-data list...
Top 100 Cities with Highest Median Household Income (pop. 5000+)
Illinois cities on the above list: Winnetka, Glenco, Long Grove, Oak Brook, Inverness, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Hawthorne Woods, Burr Ridge, Lake Bluff, Deerfiled, and...Wilmette
HOWEVER, it should be noted....
++North Oaks is not on this list because it's population is approx 3,800, ++Dellwood's Population is just over 1,000,
++Chanhassen's population is 20,000,
++Shorewood's population is about 7,400, and...
++ Edina's population is only 4700.
So we are really comparing apples to oranges...

BTW, I really didn't start this thread to bash Edina... I just felt the cultural reference was interesting.
