Nightlife around The U
A couple years ago I came up to Minneapolis to party for a weekend and we ended up around the University Of Minnesota. I don't remember the name of the bars, or the street name but am sure some of you will. If memory serves me correct, it was near downtown, and the one place had a bar/dance club on the lower half, and sort of a dive bar on the upper half. I think they were two seperate bars. The top half had pool tables and such. I think there were a couple other bars across the street.
We just told the hotel shuttle driver to take us to where it was "happening", and he said that would be down near "The U".
Does anyone know what the name of that street is, or the names of the bars in that area?? I may be going up there again this summer, and would like to hit those places.
Thanks
Minneapolis is an awesome city!

You were likely along University or 4th Street near 14th Avenue. This is the area known as Dinkytown. Google it, there should be a business or area association with a business directory. Right near the Univ. I don't know what specific bars are there, but a great place for food on the cheap. If you are just looking for nightlife, also look into the Warehouse Dist. area just north of Hennepin and around Uptown around Lake and Hennepin Aves.

Not sure about Dinkytown being the best possibility here. When I lived near there it was not a big place for real bars because of the prohibition against liquor licenses so close to campus. All that you could find then was 3.2 beer! I think I would guess West Bank. Sergeant Preston's used to be a fun place like you are describing.

Sounds like you're talking about what now is called The Library-- on 4th street in Dinkytown.

I think DrTurk is correct. However, I think they renamed it something else now other than The Library. In the 4 years since I left the U, it has changed a lot in terms of the campus/close to campus establishments.

Uh, it must've been awhile since you lived there as there are now tons of real bars that sell real beer and real booze.
Not sure of the bar that the OP is speaking of. Does sound like the Dinkytowner, though.

Loring Pasta Bar is solid, although not the bar you're referring to.
