Mendota Heights / Eagan Rentals?
Hi all, my wife and I (no kids) are relocating to the area in July. I am working in Mendota Heights and prefer a minimal commute. We are considering a townhouse/condo or luxury apartment rental (2 car garage required). Are there any areas or specific developments that we should look at or avoid? All suggestions are appreciated. Also, are there any issues with crossing the bridges during rush hour or during winter weather?
Thanks in advance

There are some nicer luxury apartments in Eagan around Yankee Doodle Road and Lexington Ave. If you are working in Mendota Heights I am going to guess it is in the Mendota Heights Office park which is basically Eagan. If so, this gives you about a 5 minute commute from your driveway to your desk. You won't find much for rentals in Mendota Heights but there are some around Charleston Ave that are ok-but you it is possible that you would be farther away there then living in Eagan. Inver Grove Heights would be another area to look into for luxury apartments or townhomes with garages that will give you an easy commute.

Thanks Golfgal, I am leaning towards a TH in Eagan or IGH at this point. From what I see on the maps, I am assuming that IGH would still be 10 minutes or less to Northland Dr.

Yes, IGH is less then 10 minutes to that area. Most of the rentals in IGH are along 494 so you are 4 exits or so from Northland. My office is right there as well and it is 15 minutes from our home in Rosemount so you can go fairly far south and still be in easy commuting distance. You might have some luck finding a townhome for rent that is not in a rental community as well. Townhomes have been overbuilt and there are a lot of them for sale that people might be interested in renting out. Check out the Sunday ads in the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press for the most listings.

I saw a sign that the Boulder Ridge rental townhomes at the intersection of 127th and Cedar Ave have vacancies. They have garages available but that is all I know. It is a great location, VERY easy to get to your new office, less then 10 minute commute on 70 mph road the entire way. The official address is Apple Valley.

Bridges crossing the river can be bad for commute. Winter commutes usually are not that bad. Just a few days during the winter, but at least there is not as much road construction. I would rather commute in the winter!
