Guestimate on what it will cost me to register my vehicle in MN...
So I moved back home here from Arizona & will have to register my car here soon. I know this topic has probably been discussed before, but I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what it will cost me?
I have an '07 Jetta. Last year at this time in Arizona it cost me $275 for plates (well, you only have 1 actual 'plate' in AZ) & registration. MN is higher in everything, so I'm curious if anyone has had to do this recently & has a newer car & can give me a range on what I will be doomed for here. I'm hoping it doesn't cost me more than $300--that's crazy! And I also know it goes down a little in price as your car gets older.
Thanks!!

It depends on the value of your car. I am going to guess that your registration is going to be in the $180-200 ballpark but I am not sure how much a Jetta sells for.

I think your costs will be similar. Jetta is not a luxury car, but not a low end either. There was another thread on this topic some time ago where I posted a link to table where you can look up that info. I am too lazy to search for it again, but you might feel up to that.

I lease, so does it mean the residual value of the vehicle? I hope to find that table, Clifford, thanks. I really need to know what I'm in for.
Any other takers? Someone on here has gotta have a similiar 2007 model car. Is Minnesota really that outrageous with the car registration fees?
Also see it's about $28 for a MN license. These renew every 4 years here, right? It's been 8 long years since I lived here, just trying to get back into the swing of things.
Thanks!

I think DL is good for 6, but not 100% sure. Lease or own, fees are the same. Exception to that is you have .5% extra tax in Hennepin county for Metrodome. Bet you $5 that tax lives longer than that stupid dome does.
If you want more accurate info, you can go the the web site:
Minnesota Vehicle Registration & Titling - MN Car Registration Guide - DMV.ORG
Pretty sure I posted something with a link to the tables they use. search my posts and you should be able to find it.

It depends on the new MSRP of your car (the exact version, i.e., GT, LX, 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, etc.).
Which version Jetta do you have? The Jetta ranges from less than $18,000 to almost $28,000. (For a Jetta? Must be one hell of a $28,000 Jetta!)
The state has a table of MSRPs for various years, models and sub-models, then that is cross-referenced with the table for your year. The fee goes down every year until the car is 10 years old, at which time every car, from a Kia to a Ferrari, becomes $35 a year.

Thanks.
I have a 2007 Jetta 2.5L...I still have the sticker price that came with it..last I checked it was in the $21,000--$22,000 range.
Hey, what do you mean? Jettas are nice cars!! VWs are good, quality cars..I don't think I'd go back to anything else, actually.
I'm hoping it could be $200 or even less..that would be great!!

I know they're nice cars. I just didn't realize you could load up the sticker that much with options when I looked them up.
It looks like your registration tax will be between $215 and $225, and the other small fees, including a new plate fee, will bring it up to $240-260.
The tax will go down about $25-30 a year for you, and they only charge the plate fee every seven years.
