Herb culture in Minnesota?
Hey everyone, we're just wondering what is the general feeling towards people who indulge in herb in Minnesota. My husband and I are both moving there next year. We have a 2 yr old son. We are working, professional college grads who don't like to drink or party. But once a week, WHEN OUR SON IS AWAY AT DAYCARE, we like to burn one, in the safety of our own home, no driving, nothing crazy, just burn one and watch a funny movie ect.
We live in CAlifornia, where this is almost legal and very accepted. What is is like in Minnesota? Are people there very harsh and judgmental towards people like us? We are not potheads, but we do indulge once a week. I would hate to have to hide that part of our lives from our new Minnesota friends. Not that we plan to brag, but you know, I like being honest, and if the subject came up, I wouldn't want to be deceitful.
thanks everyone!

Haha! I find this post very funny, but at least you're open about it. Let's put it this way, people in Minnesota like herb just as much as people in California.
Good luck with the move!

I'm not so sure about this, perhaps in the cities its true, but I've never thought that around here was very tolerant of weed. And it seems that a lot of the potheads aren't from here, like one of my friends told me she had a ton of coworkers from Chicago and said that they would go back there about every 2 weeks to pick up more weed. But then again, my older brother is doesn't mind people who smoke weed at all but can't stand cigarette smokers; opposite in my case. Anyways, I've never thought that potheads are respected much in Duluth.

The thing is though, you'll be doing it behind closed doors. What you do in your house is your business unless it harms someone else.

I think our cultural drug of choice (given the German/Norwegian/Irish background here) is getting blitzed on beer. I'm in my 40's so not really in touch but my perception is its more of a high school/college experimental thing and people either give it up or become low-income stoners.
One thing to consider is that kids will say the darndest thing and they are surrounded (especially in a state like this) by people who have been trained to pick up on clues. I know its only a once a week thing and not a problem, but the words "My house smells funny when I come back from daycare and Mon and Dad are giggling a lot when that happens I'm sorry I'm not supposed to tell you that" could lead to some nasty problems.

lol, yeah, I know, we've discussed that. By the time he comes home it's been about 7 hours since we've burned one out on the patio. And we are NEVER under the influence around him. NEVER. I will not do that to my kid. See, here in Cali, even if he did tell his friends, and god forbid cops came to my house, for the small amount that we have, the only thing you get is a citation and a fine. If even that. *They just don't care about adults partaking responsibly in MJ that much*...but your right, eventually, our little relaxation session will prob have to go...I can't drink, I never seem to be able to stop, so I don't do it at all. Not too down on drinking, makes me too crazy. MJ just makes you laugh a bit

I'd say it totally depends who you decide to socialize with. If you take a sample size of the general population of the Twin Cities metro area I'd estimate that 40-50% won't care at all about your weekly weed indulgement, while the other 50-60% probably would have a problem with it, although if you told them there is a good chance they wouldn't say anything about it (that's the passive-aggressive culture for you). I personally congratulate you on your openness. The marijuana culture here is alot more underground, people tend to be fairly secretive about it, which goes to show you that it isn't as accepted here as it is there.
I have absolutely no beef with marijuana. In fact I have expressed a couple times in this forum about my desire to have it legalized.

I agree! When used responsibly, in my opinion, it's safer than alcohol, a toxic substance which people OD on all the time, and die. Can't die from MJ! You'd eventually just fall asleep...lol
