There are many in the city and suburbs. Give us some specifics as to location, size, terrain, large/small dog, etc. and we can be more helpful.

Well one of the things that important to me as I relocate is to be either within walking distance or a short drive from an off leash park. While it's not at the top of my list of things that are necessary, it may make the difference between two otherwise equal areas. Can you bring a dog onto the lrt?

No dogs in LRT unless it's a service dog.

The park we bring our dog to is called Franklin Terrace. It's in the Seward neighborhood. We live in St Paul, so we drive to it, but many people in the surrounding neighborhood walk there. There's a diversity of housing options around there, too, from upscale homes along the River, to apartments, all within a few blocks of the park. We (and our dog!) like it very much. There's a good mix of big dogs and small dogs, and their owners are very firendly.
If you dog likes water, there is a partially-fenced park on the Mississippi within Minehaha Park. If you don't drive, may be harder to get to, though.

I looked into taking my dog to that park in Seward but then realized that you have to have your dog licensed and pay an annual fee to use Minneapolis parks. I just don't think I'd take him there often enough to be worth it. Walk your dog around any Minneapolis lake and he'll have interaction with another dog every few minutes.

Yes, it is pricey. We had to buy a city license for $12 (we live in St Paul), plus pay a $20 premium on top of the $40 park fee (because we don't live in Mpls) but it is worth it to us. We try to take him there at least once a week, so when I look at it that way, it doesn't seem so painful ($12 + $20 + $40 / 52 = $1.38/week) We enjoy socilaizing with the people there, and our dog LOVES socializing with the other dogs. He definitely likes being off-leash and get a chance to romp, wrestle and run with the big dogs (ours is only 22#, but he doesn't know it!), compared to his daily walks around the neighborhood, or solitary romps in our fenced back yard. St. Paul only has one city-owned park and it's free, but it takes us more than twice as long to get to as Franklin Terrace does.

Yeah we go 3-4 times a week where I live now...there's no replacing the interaction with other dogs that you can get at an off leash park
