see, that was a comparison.
As far as Chicago being the "King/Capital of the Midwest", that statement would be an opinion since there is no data to support the contention. Not that there is such a thing anyways.
This is an analogy...
Chicago is a big fish in a small pond.
Good luck, keep your head down and remember to serpentine.

Chicago has a way longer history of crime and gangs than Minneapolis. And lets not forget gangs are more establish and outnumber police.
Its an opinion said by many others. Chicago been mention many times as the capital/center of the Midwest, despite its problems.

Not only that, the mafia was chased out of Minnesota, so the chances of a big gang structure are not as high.

I just don't think it is funny. With this crime rate or not, Minneapolis is not a global city. And people who care about a global city instead of crime have their reasons and should not be laughed at.
This is funny only if:
1. Global city is a hideous term that nobody cares. (I think this is what you are trying to convey) OR
2. Having low crime should always be placed on top of being a global city OR
3. Global cities have low crime. OR
4. Minneapolis is a global city.
None of these are true so I don't think it is funny.

I thought it was funny from the perspective that much discussion was had over the reasons why Minneapolis is not a global city. There is a difference between not caring, and realizing when a topic is taken too seriously. If you can't laugh at yourself, then everybody else will

When making comparisons with major US cities, it makes sense to combine Minneapolis and St. Paul since they are connected and the center of a major metropolitan area. Combined population is about 662,000 which would place it 20th in the country. The Twin Cities metropolitan area is one of the principal metropolitan areas in the midwest region of the United States. I don't think anybody would argue that it isn't a global city. Even the thought to compare it to Chicago is silly. The two are on completely different spectrums. However the fact that combined Minneapolis/St. Paul is going at a yearly pace of only 2 murders per month is phenomenal. Basically all crime is way down this year after it was significantly down the year before compared to recent years. Recognizing this feat was the intent of my original post.

Indeed it is a big feat. There are cities smaller than Mpls-St.Paul that have more murders.

Chicago to Minneapolis is like comparing Seattle or Portland to LA. Chicago is the the 3rd largest metro/city in the US, so its fair to say its the king of the Midwest. I would argue that the second most influential city of the region is between Detroit and Minneapolis. While Mpls is a relatively safe city, most statistics show the Midwest's cities to have very high murder rates. Look at Gary, St Louis, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, even Kansas City and Minneapolis have their fair share. I dont know why the argument over "global" cities is taking place, who cares? The point of this post originally seemed to be that Wow! the murder rate is super low, which it is. I still wonder if they are hiding the bodies in the foreclosures?? LOL
