Default Best Breakfast Spot

Hi all. We are new to the Cities and are still testing out the great restaurants. Curious to know what is your favorite breakfast spot in Minneapolis and in St. Paul and why? If anyone knows any spots that serve turkey bacon or turkey sausage (regardless of whether its a favorite) I would like to know also. Thanks!

Minneapolis: my neighborhood has a great old-school breakfast/lunch cafe that is super cheap: Emily's F & M Cafe. Also in my neighborhood (we're blessed), Papa's Restaurant & Deli recently began serving breakfast and features a $1.00 recession special on their menu. If you're in the downtown area, try the Band Box Diner- I used to be a regular there when living in Elliot Park and always loved the food. Uptown Diner was a favorite when I lived in that area as well.

And, like most Twin Citians, I've always been a fan of the famous Mickey's Diner in St. Paul- great breakfasts.

Mikey's is overrated. It's one of those nostalgic places where the site itself is better than the food.

If you want great breakfast, you go downtown Minneapolis to Keys or Hells Kitchen. You won't find better breakfast anywhere. Reasonably priced with HUGE portions, served all day long.

We went to Hell's Kitchen the other day on a Sunday morning and they had a 2 hour wait so you'll probably need to make reservations if you're planning on eating there during peak hours. Here are my recommendations:

May Day Cafe - 3440 Bloomington Ave Minneapolis (Try the quiche - all week)
Town Talk Diner - 2707 E Lake St Minneapolis (only Sat & Sun)
Victor's 1959 Cafe - 3756 Grand Ave S Minneapolis (Cuban food - all week)
Maria's Cafe - 1113 E Franklin Ave (Columbian food, live acoustic guitar, breakfast served all day)
Old Country Buffet - 2120 Ford Pkwy St. Paul (make your own omelets, 'nuff said - Sat & Sun only)
Triple Rock 629 Cedar Ave S Minneapolis (weekend brunch is famous)

If it's still there try the Day by Day on W 7th Street in St Paul. Great coffee, great food, great atmosphere.

Keys has an amazing breakfast. Probably not the best FOR you, but it is great.

Definitely Hell's Kitchen. Just don't expect great service, but you'll definitely get great food. The service is always hit or miss, which I can deal with for the quality of the food. Caps on 50th and Hiawatha is also great, but that is weekends only. And the best for last is of course, A Baker's Wife, on 42nd St and 28th Ave. Its the best place in the cities for Croissants and cake donuts--Phenomenal!.

I've always liked Sunny-Side Cafe and The Egg & I, both located on south Lyndale between 28th Street and the Midtown Greenway (easy to bike to, if you like).

I don't know if its the best, but an absolute classic breakfast spot is Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown (on 14th Avenue SE between 4th Street and 5th Street). Its a tiny place and has been there forever--Dylan must have eaten there!
