I think twin cities safety rates are spiraling down. It's definitely still safe compared to other places people mentioned on this post.
But I feel less safe in Minneapolis than I do in Manhattan, New York. Minneapolis is not the same safe place it once was!

Ummm, Minneapolis has never even come close not then, not now, and never will. Get your facts straight.
You're right, it was 1995. Sorry for that. DC and Detroit probably did have more overall homicides, so maybe it was just a per-capita thing.

Google or Ask Jeeves or what ever you use for murderapolis.

Urban Dictionary: Murderapolis

I don't really know why I posted this. I do remember when people were calling it this. But I heart Mnpls and hope it doesn't become very unsafe.

K-LUV, sorry your still wrong.

Minneapolis did not even have 100 murders in 1995. It has never had 100 murders.. If it had 100 murders in 1995, its murder rate per capita would have been around 25 per 100,000. That would have been less than half of Detroits murder rate. Therefore, Minneapolis was not the murder capital, never has even been close, never has even had a third the rate of the leading city.

For you to even make such a statement is completley ridicoulus.

Well, what ever the number was, it still made national attention. When I first moved to Minneapolis in 1997, it was still a hot topic around the water cooler, as they would say. I am not one of those dopes who refers to Minneapolis as Murderapolis, or Moneyapolis or Minnesoldier or what ever and it seems to me that Minneapolis is still a relatively safe city for it's size.

There are those on here who seem bent on preserving Minnesotas' good name, and in a way I don't blame them. But to complete ignore, what ever the numbers where, that in 1995 (and 2006) the homicide that was happening in Minneapolis was enough to grab the attention of the New York Post. Now that is a fact.

What is this "Minneapolis has massive problems".. title line? Minneapolis does not have massive problems. It is a well governed city and as for murders....Those usually happen between domestic disputes or drug related type of situations..

Default Detroit or Minneapolis

Hey Gang,

I'm new to this forum and looking forward to some great conversations. I grew up in the City of Detroit. I've lived in Chicago, too. Minneapolis is so much safer than either of those two cities. I spend alot of time showing homes to buyers who invest and rehab in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. We know there is danger, but we do our best to use our heads to try and stay out of harm's way.

On the other hand, you can't go anywhere in Detroit proper and do what I do. I am very grateful to live here in the Twin Cities, especially after living in Detroit. Not only are we safer here, we have a much better economy and a brighter future.

Why is everyones primary concern when it comes to crime the murder rate? People are not out just randomly shooting people on a regular basis. It happens, but generally there is a clear cut "motive" 95% of the time.

For every paranoid individual out there concerned about getting shot to death, the odds of getting robbed or assaulted are about 10 times as bad.

Thank you for posting here to clear up some of the nonsense people think about Minneapolis.
