Default Moving from St. Cloud to St. Paul

So, I've had it with the ho-hum life in St. Cloud. I'm looking to move to St. Paul in January once my lease here has expired. I'm going to be finishing up the last couple semesters of my bachelor's degree, so work is not currently important to my future location. While checking out the city I really fell in love with Grand Avenue. I'm wondering if it is really worth paying a little extra to actually live on it. I'm currently looking at the area south of Marshall, west of Downtown and east of Cleveland. Probably a studio or maybe a small one bedroom. Also, is there a better area to live in St. Paul? (I'll be commuting to Woodbury for school.)
Thanks for any input, just trying to gather a better idea of the area.

If I was going to move elsewhere in St. Paul it would probably be to the area you're talking about, Selby/Dale or by Hamline. I'd lean toward not living right on Grand but I could possibly be swayed by the right cost/location. Just my opinion, but things will be busier, louder, worse parking, etc. I'd shoot for an intersecting street or something that runs parallel on the south like Lincoln, Goodrich or Fairmount Aves. You would still be in walking distance of bars, restaurants and stores aplenty.
