Default What to do in Minneapolis

Hey, I will be in Minneapolis for a week for work. I have never been to your city, so I am looking for suggestions on some sightseeing (besides Mall of America) or maybe a few restaurants at night.

A quick walk downtown Minneapolis will reveal at least a week's worth of things to do. Check out Brit's Pub; see what's showing at the Orpheum or the Guthrie; go to the Sculpture Garden; have breakfast at Keys or Hell's Kitchen; go to the rooftop of Seven; shop on Nicollet mall - the possibilities are endless.

I'd definitely check out the Walker Art Center and the Stone Arch Bridge too.

It sort of depends on when you'll be here, where you'll be working and living, and what your interests are.

The Mall of America is just another mall, writ large, with typical mall stores for the most part. Get a postcard and skip it, lie to your friends. There are nicer places to hang out when the weather's nice (such as Linden Hills or 50 France), and better malls when its not (such as Galleria).

I second Brit's Pub.

Well, if you will be here sometime between 9/27 - 10/2, it is restaurant week in MSP. It would be a good opportunity to check out some nice places for relatively low cost.

Dont skip the mall. Its fun the first time you go. Plus it gives the oppurtunity to take the lightrail downtown and stop at minnehaha falls halfway through.

Maybe it would make sense to create a sticky topic at the top of the Minneapolis/St. Paul board with a master list of all the different types of things to do, it could be organized into nearby parks, restaurants, museums, bars/clubs, major events that happen during the year, sporting events, amusement parks, historic buildings, places and things, etc. Each item could be followed by its address and a short description. Uptown Urbanist, thoughts?

So tonight is my last night. I have been to Mall of America. Went downtown on First ave, some of the local restaurants, etc. I am impressed. The land around the city reminds me a little of Buffalo, being that it is mostly flat, with a few hills. But the city is much more busy and modern looking than the upstate NY cities. The stores are full with alot of younger business people during the lunch hours. The transportation is easy, I managed to get downtown and back to the hotel without getting lost. Your airport is one of the best that I have been to, and I like the separate roads for the buses.
