Default Opinions on the City of Plymouth

We're looking to retire in MN into a condo/townhouse. Some people have recomended Plymouth. Any opinions good or bad about the area.
Thanks in advance for your points of view.

Plymouth seems to be a solid middle-class suburb, not real exciting but certainly with everything you would need (shopping, Medical, restaurants) nearby.

What do you want out of a neighborhood or city? Plymouth is a modern American suburb, safe but not particularly exciting. Some people love it for that reason; others dislike it for that reason.

I have relatives who lived there while they were younger and had kids; now that they're retired they spend the summers in Plymouth, the winters in Arizona (a fairly typical thing, or at least among my older MN relatives and their friends.)

Everything you need is there. It's very cookie cutter and suburban boring. All depends on what you want. You will probably be very car dependent there.

I just left there. Boring, gray and rainy and cold. It's not my favorite place.

If you are acquiring housing for the rest of your retirement, then yes, a townhome in Plymouth would suit you just fine. You might also want to consider Maple Grove as well. Most MSP suburbs give you about the same look and feel, some exceptions. I'd think your primary goal would be to purchase a home outright at this point - glut of basic but comfortable units in those areas.

I lived in Plymouth for 13 months. I thought that it was a great community for a single person. It is definitely the suburbs, but if you are looking for a safer place to live this one is great. The prices have gone up since Money magazine rated it very high for most livable cities. The home prices are higher than some of the Neighboring suburbs. Golden Valley is really nice and is a little closer to the dowtown Minneapolis. Some of my favorite things about living in Plymouth was they have a great 4th of July celebration and I always enjoyed Parker Lake too. There is a good amount of shopping and parks. You are really close to Maple Grove that has everything. Hope this helps

A lot of my friends live in Plymouth, and most of them really dislike it. It's your average middle to upper middle class suburb, with nothing much to it other than standard-issue strip malls and cookie-cutter houses. No sidewalks in most neighborhoods, though some have bike paths that don't really go anywhere. It's safe and has good access to highways, but other than that I really can't see any benefit to living there as a retiree. A lot of young families choose Plymouth because of the school district, which is highly regarded.
