Default Newport - considering job relocation

I'd love some recent input on Newport. Married with toddler and happy with suburb life. I'm looking for less than 30 minute commute, safe neighborhood, good schools and a decent home under $300k. Not too much to ask? Green space is more important that shopping.

Please share your opinions as I'm really unfamiliar with the twin cities.

I'm visiting this weekend and would love to have recommendations on specific neighborhoods, parks or areas to drive through.

thanks

Hastings would be first on my list, easy commute, great town, convenient to pretty much everything, shopping, parks, etc. Prescott, WI would have been on my list too but they just ended the income tax reciprocity with WI so that will get expensive. Woodbury would also be an option but housing there is more expensive. Inver Grove Heights is convenient but the schools aren't as good as Hastings and housing is more expensive as well.
