Default Need advice - possibly moving to Seward

I'm in Seattle right now, and I'm planning a move to the Twin Cities at the end of the year, but I can't visit before moving. I've found a great apartment for sublease right off of E. Franklin Ave. between the Seward Co-op and the river.

My main question is about safety, because I've read and heard differing opinions about the area. I'm a female distance runner, and I like to be able to step outside my door and start running. I'll likely be running in the dark, since I'm moving in January. So... will this be safe in Seward? Also, the apartment is on the ground floor, but it's got bars on the windows, so I assume that's safe...?

Those neighborhoods along the river are actually fairly well off. We've biked and walked on that river park path various times, and every time there were other people using the paths. I don't think you should have too many issues with safety in that neighborhood. Just take the same precautions you normally would if you were running alone and you should be fine.

I live adjacent to that area in the Corcoran neighborhood, welcome to the neighborhood! Seward is a great area in my opinion.

my girlfriend runs alone, (often in the dark) in the corcoran neighborhood and never has any problems (knock on wood). I would expect Seward to have even less crime than Corcoran, but i haven't chekced the data to back that up.

Side note: One of our favorite bars is right by there, called Tracy's Saloon. If you move there be sure to check this place out, they have some of the best happy hour specials in the city.

Blue Nile is great too, I just have a hard time justifying the cover they charge on Friday and Saturday nights.

You'll be completely fine out at night that far east.

And as a fellow distance runner, I can tell you that you will love your location so close to the river; the paths are very nice.

Thanks everyone! I've decided to rent the apartment - maybe I'll meet some of you in January. It would be especially nice to have some people to go running with.

It's not a Terrible area, but it has poor lighting and I wouldn't personally feel safe jogging at night
