No it doesn't. Minnesota doesn't have the death penalty and Minnesota has a very low violent crime rate. Georgia, on the other hand, has the death penalty and won't hesitate to put someone to death, and yet, Georgia has one of the highest violent crime rates in the USA. The same goes for Texas. Texas has the death penalty and has executed more people than any other state, but it has one of the highest violent crime rates in the USA.

Thanks for your answer about my great grandfather Emil Amandus Andersson!
But he has only two daughters: Violet and Pearl.
Perhaps it´s only Amandus I can search for?
I wonder if there are a grave for him in Minneapolis?
He died in 1951.

If 3 is all Mpls has for the year, then anyone who thinks Mpls is ghetto needs to take a visit to Atlanta or New Orleans. Atlanta had 85 murders last years, and that is actually low for Atlanta. Normally, Atlanta has at least 100 per annum.

Actually we are at 4 murders for the year. The fourth happened last Tuesday across the street and 4 doors up the block from my house. So North Minneapolis is now even with Burnsville for number of homicides for the years.

Okay, 4. Still, many cities are recording more than that.

Sorry the sarcasm in my original post didn't come thru. I'm very aware that many cities are worse. That is why I reference Burnsville in my post which is considered a nice safe suburb by many in the metro. After living in Philly, Milwaukee, and Memphis I find it almost comical how people in the Twin Cities view the crime in this area.

With no basis for comparison, it's hard to be objective about crime. My move to Atlanta was eye-opening in that regard. It isn't a war zone here by any means, but even suburban Atlanta makes the Twin Cities look like a nice safe backwater...
