My wife and I briefly considered the Dallas area before deciding to focus on the Austin area.

Throwing out weather and crime, both cities seem to have plentiful jobs for good pay (at least white collar ones), but the cost of housing is considerably cheaper than the Twin Cities.

howdy,
would go with the Minneapolis/St. Paul. Dallas is an armpit, nice way to put it, was thinkin of an area a bit lower though. crime is out of site. ass deep in mexicans, very dirty city and way too big.
the several times i have been to the MSP area has been great. hell even ya'll's garbage trucks are clean.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Dallas an armpit, but I do like the feel of Minneapolis / St. Paul better. More character in the neighborhoods, better public services, and better quality of life, IMO.

I am from Minnesota & moved to Texas when I was 21 & lived there for 5 1/2 years---TOO LONG. I lived in Dallas & looking back, I agree, it's an armpit! Dallas is pretty dumpy & no one there wants to welcome you to their city especially if you're from the Midwest like me. They call you a yankee & think their state is the greatest & every other state isn't. I lived in a suburb of Minneapolis, never in the city itself, but I would choose Minneapolis. I moved away 6 years ago now, but I'm sure the quality of life is better there.

I just relocated from MPLS to Dallas. I lived in MN for 35 years, born and raised there leaving on occasion for military duty, etc.

Here are the differences I've seen: Dallas, way nicer weather if you like it hot (I do). MPLS, way nicer if you like it so cold the horn breaks on the train (I'm not joking...this really happened last winter). You can actually die or lose fingers and toes in a couple of minutes during the winter if you are trapped outside not properly dressed.

I also noticed nothing is shadowy in Texas during the day. Those of us with SAD like that. Makes daytime seem like daytime and summer seem official.

I miss the outdoors of MN.

Commute both places is terrible, although MPLS has more congested highways during rush hour (35W, 77, 62, 494, 394, 94, etc). Dallas has pockets of bad traffic versus constant.

More road construction projects in MN by far!

So far the bad parts of Dallas are just like bad parts of N. MPLS from my observation (I work in Lancaster).

People are nicer in TX...by far.

Drivers are more curteous (sp) in Dallas and actually let you in even though you have out of state plates.

People wave in TX.

Today on the train, a stranger that lives in Irving gave me her phone number and said if I needed anything to call her. OMG...never would happen in MN and I've lived there all of my life She was so nice. the Conversation started with a directional question and busted into a 35 min discussion about life, etc.

MPLS may be cleaner.

What I hate about Dallas: driving long distances because I don't know shortcuts, the train does not take credit cards and you have to use cash.

These are just a few of my observations. You have to go where it is best for you, but the cities are like comparing apples to oranges. Try them both out. Housing in MPLS sucks, expensive and now very hard to sell. Dallas is way cheaper for most things and taxes are based more on consumption. Way more fair.

I don't want to live in either, but of the two I would choose MSP. Atleast there is greenery and winter sports, Dallas is mainly concrete and steel (taken from a quote on the Texas thread).
