Default Hennepin County w-2

Does anyone work for Hennepin County? Just curious if anyone has gotten their W-2 from there yet. I know they have until the 31st but my husband still hasn't gotten his yet and I would really like to get started on our taxes. He keeps forgetting to ask his coworkers if they have gotten theirs.

You just answered your own question. Since they aren't legally binded to post mark and send out the W2 until Jan 31st you have no basis for a complaint here. Be patient.

I wasn't complaining. I was just asking if anyone had received a W-2 from them yet. No complaint, just curious.

We don't get our W-2's sent out until the last minute either. I have everything else by my W-2. It is frustrating. If you do your taxes yourself-Turbo Tax or whatever, you could use his last pay stub to get started and then refresh the info when you get it.

I am just waiting on my U of M tax forms. It isn't overly frustrating though because none of this needs to be done until April 15th...we have over three months to get this done people, no need to freak out about it yet.

Can you look on your last paysub for December? The YTD amount should match what will appear on your W2.

Well YOU may not need to have them done by April 15th but some of us need to have them done sooner rather than later. Our oldest is going off to college and we need to have them done to finish our Financial Aid forms--mainly for scholarships since we probably won't get any federal aid but they still need to be completed. Also, some of us are getting refunds and I want the money sooner rather than later. Then there is the issue of getting into the accountant for many people-the sooner you get in, the faster they get done.

As someone who takes part in the W2 process on the employer side I get really annoyed by people who call in before Jan 31st asking where their W2 is. The Jan 31st deadline is there for a reason and there should be no issue with any company or organization exercising their right to send out the W2's as close to the deadline as they want. Last I checked everybody has the same deadline for getting their taxes submitted, April 15, which is plenty of time, regardless if there are other things that need to get done with the taxes...if that were the case I'm sure their deadline for that follows the tax deadline, if it didn't it wouldn't make any sense. Also, if you're so eager for tax refunds you could have increased your exceptions on your W-4 form to prevent paying too much into your taxes in the first place, then you wouldn't have to worry about the refund.

Financial aid forms have to be filed by March 1st for full consideration so they don't follow the tax deadlines, on top of which, many scholarship applications are already due, again not following the tax deadlines. No one called anyone and it's too bad people annoy you. There are plenty of companies that can get their w-2's out well before Jan 31st and just because your company isn't able to work harder and get that done doesn't mean other companies can't.

As far as changing our withholding--we can't. We have too many variables with our income each year and this prevents us from owing any more--not that it really is any of your business in the first place.
