Good luck. The issue you face is that insurance companies won't insure homes with pit bulls (and other dogs on their dangerous dog list). Most rentals won't take pit bulls (or other large dogs for that matter) because of this.

Thanks for the good wishes.

I just hope you - and others - know that such restrictions are based on ignorant bigotry, and not actual facts.

Doesn't matter does it, if they won't allow you to keep your dog there? Short of buying your own place. You could try craigslist or contacting the local Humane Societies as they may have a list of rentals that allow pitbulls, altho you may have to go out into the suburbs.

Dogs that could cause homeowners insurance rates to rise

According to this website, the ownership of an American Pit Bull or one of the other 10 breeds mentioned could potentially result in the refusal to insure or with increased rates.

On a personal level I find it hard to believe there aren't alot of pitbull friendly options around the U of M westbank. I don't think I ever even saw a pit bull in person until I moved into Minneapolis and now it seems like I see them everywhere. For example, we took our dog for a walk in the East Phillips neighborhood on Sunday and I think we saw at least 3 people walking their pit bull. This area we were in is about a mile and a half from the U of M Law building.

Although I haven't looked into this issue in depth because we don't own a pit bull, I say don't give up the search quite yet because there is probably hope.

FYI: Our dog is a little wimpy 20 lb half King Cavalier half Lhasa Apso, look out!
