if there is any question - take a look at these links
I just did a google image search with the words "pit bull" and "attack", which returned 10,800 links. Anyone can see a small portion of the damage that pit bulls do by taking a look at these links.
attack "pit bull" - Google Image Search
The words "pit bull" and "death OR mutilation OR mauling" return 12,900 links.
death OR or OR mutilation OR or OR mauling "pit bull" - Google Image Search
There are 6 links under "dachshund attacks".
This is a dead subject as far as I am concerned. It is time to stop the senseless maulings, mutiliations and deaths caused by pit bulls and their owners.

I know too many owners of gentle pitbulls or gentle pit bull look-alikes to believe all the hype against them.
To me, the worst possible dogs are labs; but that's because in *MY* personal experience it has been labs that have bitten my sister and me.
My sister was a 10 year old kid on an outdoor hockey rink when this big black lab jumped the fence, skidded across the ice and bit her on the cheek; then took off, jumping the fence and running away. For me; I was 9 months pregnant and our golden lab suddenly bolted off her leash and pinned our neighbor against the house. *I* couldn't get the dog back under my control and she turned and bit me.
I really feel that any dog that even half way resembles a bulldog, pit bull or any dog with a wide chest and larger head is referred to as a pit bull.
Here is a quiz to prove my point: Find the pit bull Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

Thats funny that you say that.. did you know you have a WAY bigger chance of getting attacked by a lab then an American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier or a Staffordshire Bull Terrier?? And thats a FACT, not a MYTH! lol! I have been around "pit bulls" all of my life and my husband and I currently own 2 (hopefully more soon! ). I have never even thought I would get bit by any of them! I have been attacked by a lab though and my neighbors lab (not the same one that attacked me) attacked 5 people before it was put to sleep! All of which were children under the age of 12 and one of which was my 10 year old little brother!
Great post by the way! I have taken the quiz that you posted before and I really liked it! I have to say that this is my favorite one though... findpitbull_v4 Alot of people will get mad and say they didnt know that there was only 1 "pit bull" out of all 5 pages -even though it tells you that! lol- Sooo... There are 5 pages and there is only 1 "pit bull" you can go from page to page as many times as you like and look at all of the dogs before you pick one. When you pick one it will tell you if you got it right or not and it will tell you the breed of the dog. So, again.. There are 5 pages and only 1 "pit bull".. go through all 5 pages and look at each dog before you choose one! Good luck! I do have to say that this quiz is a bit easier than others though, I mean they have some dog pictures that are obviously NOT "pit bulls" lol! Its interesting though to see all of the different breeds.

Wake Up America!!!!
"Pit bulls" are probably the most misunderstood dogs in the United States. People see them and cross the street out of fear and try to ban them from their cities. Why? Simply stated, lack of education on the breeds.
Thanks for putting it out there! In my life I have owned a total of 5 APBT's. Two were unfortunately hit by cars on a country road and didn't survive. I currently have 3 males ages 7 yrs. 2 yrs. and 1 yr. They would never hurt a thing!!!!!! The oldest male was rescued from a kid who was breeding APBT to fight. I originally seen an ad when searching for my dog online. I was interested and called immediately as it was an albino (very hard to come by) When we got to the kids house the first question he asked me was do you want an aggresive one or just a mean one. My first thoughts were this is not going to be good. When I seen the "puppies" I immediatley knew whether I wanted to or not I had to get one (wishing I had enough money to buy them all). We had a two hour drive home and during that time the dog just sat there shaking. He was bloody, dirty, and just bad looking.(He had whole through the ears, inverted eye lids, etc.) We brought him to the vet immediately to find he was suffering from severe malnuritment (weighed 23 pounds at 6 months old!!) and needed several surgeries immediately to reverse effects. Now 7 years later he is the best dog I have ever had and many of my neighbors agree he is the best dog they know. He has helped us train our other dogs and even helped try nursing a kitten we got from a farm. I have a 2 year old nephew who is always pulling on ears jumping on their backs when they are on the floor, following them pulling their tails, etc. Our dogs have never showed one ounce of aggression--- not even a growl!! People think APBT's are "cool" dogs or their friends will like them more if they get an APBT.
Let's face it if we ban these so called "Aggresive breeds" in 5 years we will be looking at other breeds and pretty soon it will be all dogs!! What happened to Freedom? Why can't we hold individual owners accountable? I agree if your dog was classified as "potentially dangerous" they need to be put down. Instead they are allowed to roam the streets and when they attack no one questions why action wasn't taken before. Or they never look at the owner. Half the time you see the owners on the News saying I never thought this would happen, he/she never seemed aggresive. Lets admit noone is going to admit on national TV they are idiots and mistreated their animal!!!!
I just found out they are planning on banning 5 breeds in my state within the next year. I would have to put my dog down or move out of the state I love!! No brainer-- I will move if this passes!!!
I am unable to have children and my dogs are my kids. This would be like saying we have to kill all African Americans or anyone with African American traits who are between the ages of 16-24 because you have a high crime rate. You are asking me to KILL my "kid" because you abused yours or just didn't know how to take care of one.
Short TRUE Story: 2 german shepards in a small town attacked a little dog. the dog was severly injured, reported, and nothing happened to the 2 german sheperds. Not more than a month later, the german shepards attacked and KILLLED the little dog with 3 small kids closely by watching the whole thing! Still nothing was done to the 2 german shephards and it was never even in the local paper!!!!!!!!!!!! Stories like this are to common.
Remember how I said my first dog was rescued--- we reported the place that we purchased him from. We kept an eye on it and the next year the same person was at it again!!!!!!!
We need to wake up and look at what is really going on. I thought our country was past the whole discrimination thing apparently not!!

I'm not reading all that above mumbo jumbo.
Here's my two cents.
I personally think, if a resident feels threatend by a dog in the area. The police should be contacted and see how severe it really is.
No matter what dogs attack a person or other animal of sorts, is usually put down anyways.
You cant really prevent this from happening. If you ban pit bulls, some phsyco dog trainer, will just train a different breed to do the same thing.
I say, If you feel threatend, call the cops.
Simple and Reasonable. =]

I agree!! Wonderful post! My husband and I own two APBTs and they have been with us sinse they were each 8 weeks old. We have properly raised them, properly trained them and over socialized them! lol! They are big babies and they LOVE everyone and everything! But.. we never ever let them outside without being on a run or a leash, before I ever open the door for someone I put them both in their crates so there is no way they can get out of the house and/or just incase whoever is at the door is scared of pits or dogs, we put them in their crates when we have guests over unless our guests really don't mind them being out (we never have to keep them in their crates long though.. everyone that has ever met them has fallen in love with them), we even try to take them for their walks early in the morning before most people are up and around, during the day when most people are in work or school and/or right before bed when most people are in their homes.. We do all of this, not because they are mean dogs, but out of respect for the people that live around us. As I already said, everyone that meets them, loves them, but not everyone likes dogs and not everyone has met them.. so, out of respect for them we make sure that they never have any reason at all to be worried! I love all breeds, but I don't think that people should be allowed to own an aggressive dog in a neighborhood no matter what breed it is. I agree that instead of banning breeds people need to report any aggressive dogs, irresponsible, abusive or neglectful owners and anything illegal that is going on like if a dog is running around with out a leash or if people are using dogs for dog fighting. That is what will really make a difference! Banning breeds will only force the horrible, disturbed, heartless, abusive, neglectful people to move onto a different breed. We need to make sure that certain people cant own dogs... period!

I have absolutely no experience with pit bulls, but my dad did buy me a Rottie when I was 6 years old. He was the best dog ever. I went to obedience school with both of my parents to learn the proper way to train and handle the dog. He was the perfect companion to myself and my baby sister. My mom would be out in the yard working in her garden while my sister and I would play in the sandbox. That dog would herd my sister back over to me when she started to wander away. He never once hurt a fly and was used to having her and I hanging on him at all times. I'd get another Rottie in a heartbeat, if I had a big enough yard.
I believe that even the best of breeds of dogs can be aggressive and hurt people, but with the proper training and environment, they can be the best pets ever.
