I am comparing the 1998 NFC Championship heartbreaker to the 2009 NFC Championship heartbreaker. (the actual games were in 1999 and 2010)

The 1998 Vikings saw the high-powered explosive offense led by Randall Cunningham and the Rookie of the Year Mr. Randy Moss. With a veteran RB in Robert Smith and veteran wide-outs Chris Carter and Jake Reed, the Vikings set the all time single season point record that year (later broken by the 07' Pats) The season ended with a 15-1 record, a single loss to Buccaneers. The Vikes were coached by Denny Green, who got the team to a First Round Bye.

The NFC Championship game was one for the books. Approaching half time, Dennis Green called for a kneel down with nearly :30 left and the Vikes near mid field. Also, Gary Anderson missed his 1 and Only field goal that game, a field goal that would have all but secured a Victory. The Atlanta Falcons kicked the game winner, putting them into the Super Bowl where they ended up losing to Elway's Broncos.

The 2009 Vikings were led by the media-frenzied Brett Favre saga. With easily one of the best teams on paper, the Vikings exploded to a 10-0 record with Brett, Sidney Rice, AP and their D FENCE!

The memory is too fresh in my mind to even talk about. The NFC Championship game put the Vikes in the Super Dome against the high-powered Saints. The Vikes had a chance to blow the game away more than 5 times, but failed to do so. Ironically, the chief, the leader, the head honcho, the man, Brett, threw an idiodic pass that was picked-off, pushing the game to OT and giving the ball to the Saints, who marched (no pun intended) down field to kick a game winning field goal..

So, which was worse for you? for me it was 2009. I'm still bitter.

I remember both games all too well. In 1999, I was living in Atlanta () and I watched the game at home with my dad. I didn't really have a rooting preference back then, but I do remember it was a very exciting game.

2010 was the worst for me. I was really pulling for the Vikes, thought that they had the game, and then the flippin INT. And the coin toss. Ugh.

The Championship Game against the New York Giants was very painful since it was a prolonged shutout beating. But 1998 takes the cake since that was a team of density......and destiny!

The 1998 team had NO defense though - except John Randle.

The 2009 team was the most talented -- maybe not as much on offense vs. 1998, but that's debatable -- I still voted for 1998 because I never get EMOTIONALLY attached to a game and I honestly felt like the Vikings broke my heart that year! I wanted to cry!!

Though 2009 is still very fresh in my mind and really heartbreaking, 1998 was worst without question.

The reasons being:
1. In 09, we had the hostle dome croud against us. In 98, we had it on our side.
2. The 09 Saints were a far better team than the 98 Falcons.
3. The 09 game was a seasaw game, and neither team ever had control of the game or looked like they were pulling away. The Vikings had control throughout regulation in 98 and looked like they were pulling away at times but just couldn't.

From a football standpoint, 98 was also worst. In 09, both the Saints and Colts were great teams, so at least the superbowl was entertaining. But I knew the Broncos would kill the Falcons in 98. One of the worst SB's I've ever seen. Had the Vikings made it, that would've been the most epic SB ever and honestly, I think the Vikings would've won.

So yeah, 98 was easy worst. However, 09 brought back memories of 98 and made me feel that pain again.

Haha, that's because they knew the O would put up 39/game. So they could get away with giving up 28 points! lol

Come to think of it, the 2009 team was better probably in every single way than the 1998 besides the WR core.

Moss Reed Carter > Rice Harvin Berrian
