Default Medicare Waiver-how long of a wait?

Hi,

I searched for this topic and did not find it mentioned in any postings. I have a 15-year old special needs son and will retire to Minnesota in about 2-3 years. In the U.S., special needs children are guaranteed an education until they are 21. After that age, services are provided and paid for either privately or through a Medicare Waiver.

How long did your child with special needs (mine is severely-handicapped) have to wait for his Medicare waive?

Mari

Mari:

I would suggest you contact PACER. They are an advocacy organization based in MN. Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights

You could also see if you could speak to a school social worker at a school near where you plan to move - they probably have an idea about how long things take.
