Super One is a chain of 28 stores (in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and I believe North Dakota) based in Duluth.

Tom Thumb, maybe? Taco Johns? Not too sure about the chains, but there are a ton of (multi) national companies that were founded and/or based in this state.

Snuffy's Malt Shop. A Twin Cities institution. There are either 3 or 4 of them across the metro. Best burger / fries / rings plate in town.

Herberger's started in Alexandria - but now is part of Carson Piri Scott, etc.
I think Doolittle's Restaurant is just regional - great ribs.

Von Maur Deptartment store, one in Des Moines and one in Eden Prairie. Excellent family owned dept store like Daytons was before Marshall Fields then Macys bought it (and it might change hands again soon).

Again, Von Maur stores are found from Nebraska to Ohio -- not "only in Minnesota and adjacent states."

This is a very good topic! I'd say offhand that Perkins seems to be limited to the upper midwest. I haven't encountered a Perkins in New York City, aside from Elizabeth Perkins. I think I saw her at The Dugout in Greenwich Village some time ago. She looks much better in-person.
