Mumof3,

I think you would be very satisfied with any of the schools in South Washington County. A few of the schools there are amongst the top in the state...which is pretty darn great. And, even the worst school in South Washington County is a 100X better than any school in Lancaster, CA (public or private). I know because I went to school there about 15 years ago. It must be absolutely horrible now. When I was living there, it was very bad. Lots of crime in the early 90's. I moved there from "inner city" Saint Paul, Minnesota when I was in junior high school. I did not come from the best school, and I was a quite average student in Minnesota but when I moved to California, I was placed in advanced classes. When I think back, it was really crazy. I did come back after 5 years of Lancaster. My mom got fed up with it. I got into all kinds of trouble and never went to school. The school never even called my mom when I did not show up to school. In 9th grade, I think I missed 86 days of school. As a senior in high school, I came back to Minnesota. One day, I decided I didn't want to go to school and the "school lady" called right away in the morning asking why I was not in school that day. Talk about a laugh...at the time, it was funny. Enough of that. Minnesota is far, far better to raise children. The parents here are very involved, in schools and in general. And I know the schools are wonderful, but stay away from Saint Paul and Minneapolis schools (although, not that bad compared to other comparable cities).
And regarding previous negative posts on other threads, Minnesotans seem quite reserved but, if you are outgoing and/or if you have school children, you will find true friends in no time. It's about getting out there because I don't think Minnesotans typically do. You have to take matters into your own hands. I am very outgoing, and most Minnesotans are just shy, but tons of fun also once you get to know them.
