You could also take a look at Sioux Falls, SD if you REALLY hate taxes!

No state income tax but the property taxes are outrageous! We lived in Sioux Falls for a couple years and it wasn't any less expensive to live there then it was in Marshall, except for milk, milk was always on sale there.

Wait! What about Minneapolis? You can get by without a car due to the great transportation the city has to offer. The Twin Cities in my opinion are small, slow paced and beautiful. Great parks, museums, and theaters. I still think Mpls. is a very affordable city, comparatively speaking.

Luverne, Mn. is near Sioux Falls, SD.
My house is for sale there, lol.
We are semi retiring down south, mainly because some children there.
I love the small town of Luverne, it's very clean and quiet, yet lots going on.
Don't know if you'd want to buy my house though, it's 3 bedroom, 3 baths. large yd.
:P

MN has never been the highest taxed state.

I could make you a fairly good deal on a moderate sized lakehome an a very good small fishing lake in the Grand Rapids area ( Mid way between Duluth and Bemidji ) with over twenty five acres of timber and a great lawn and view of the lake.
