My husband and I are planning a family vacation for the spring and we want to do something rustic and outdoorsey. I'm looking for suggestions for resorts. Also I have been interested in one resort and wondering if anyone has any reviews or experience there? http://gunflint.com (Gunflint)
We're up for anything outdoorsey, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, camping, snow shoeing. Anyone have any suggestions?!?!

Bruce Kerfoot runs a top of the line operation at Gunflint Lodge. His mom operated the family canoe business in town.

Another place that often comes up (or at least several of my friends have gone there for years and years, and I sometimes see it written up in magazines) is Bearskin Lodge, also up in that area. (and while I haven't stayed a resort up there, I have gone cross-country skiing in the area; it is amazing! You'll have a great time.)

Hungry Jack Outfitters is near some of the rugged hiking trails including the Kek, and the famed Stairway Portage. The trail head is ten minutes from the driveway with access to the border route trails also
Hungry Jack Canoe Outfitters, Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais, Minnesota

Click on cabins and then things to do link

Caribou Rock Hiking trail is rated as moderate to difficult but well worth the effort for a day hike. We hiked this trail last summer it was fantastic with wonderful views and many sights of into Canada as well.

Most of the resorts have canoes also for more fun

Except, it's not where the OP is looking.

I've never stayed at the lodges in Itasca State Park, but I've always wanted to. Plenty of outdoor activities there.

Gold Mine Resort is one of the nice resorts in Minnesota. I look forward to going there on the weekend with my hubby, we actually got a very good deal on dailyminneapolis.com so we're only paying $270 for a 3-night stay. pretty sweet for a weekend getaway!

That said, it was a fairly nice resort back then. Have no idea what it's like now, since it's been 20 years since I last did any more than drive by the entrance by the airport...
