Minnesota ... New England?
Any areas of Minnesota that would remind you of Mass., Vermont, etc. regarding the scenery/geography?

None that I have seen. There are no beautiful mountains, etc in MN-maybe hills in Duluth. Funny I overheard a conversation today of someone who visited Burlington,Vt and was astounded by the sheer beauty of the Adirondaks, White Mtns, etc. There is no comparison anywhere to that beauty.

North shore of Lake Superior. Hit it in late Sept. Gorgeous.
I've always thought that the towns along the Mississippi to the south of the Twin Cities could just as easily be in upstate New York.

I think you will find that most areas of Minnesota have similar tree coverage, etc. so the fall colors are spectacular, especially along the river valleys and around the lakes. Stillwater is very New Englandish I think.

Having lived most of my life on the East Coast-there is no comparison between MN and upstate NY, PA or New England states. The sheer beauty and power of the mountains is breathtaking. DH who was born and raised in MN agrees w/me.

Was just pickin' out a state to "see what the h#@@ they're talking about." Guess the mouse was pointing at the Minnesota forum when I clicked. Saw this posting and decide to "drop in". I always thought(at least most of) Minnesota was flat-rolling forest w/many, many lakes. What wouldn't be scenic about that?

No comparison? There is a comparison, no doubt. Both areas are heavily forested, rolling hills, many natural lakes, and great falls colors due to the maples (Minnesota actually has many oaks and aspen as well, so while not the uniform orange can be more varied).
Nobody here, at least what I read, is arguing that the landscape of Minnesota is better or more dramatic than New England. Minnesota certainly doesn't have the White or Green mountains or the history of the northeast. But then again, Vermont and NH don't have the rocky, rugged shoreline of Lake Superior.
