According to GOP lawmakers, civil rights are something that should be voted on.

Thoughts?

Sad, I would have thought that Minnesota's live and let live sensibility would have prevented something like this. Lets hope the voters of MN teach the GOP senators a lesson on this one.

There's a Democrat in the Governor's mansion that will most likely put a veto stamp on this travesty of legislation. He won by less than 1000 votes. Did you help him win, or did you stay home?

I think that the vote will allow gay marrage as most Minnesotants belive in the speration of church and state. I don't understand the GOP on this one. They are for limited government, yet they want the government to dictate who can marry and who can't.
If we wanted govenment to use religion to influence personal decisions, why not move to Iran or Saudi Arabia.

I'm a Christian, but I don't think my faith's views on marriage should be encoded in state law, much less in the Minnesota constitution. I'm against this legislation. Separation of church and state.

Exactly. The GOP is for limited government in fiscal matters, and big government over our personal lives.

Except now it's a voter issue. Dayton is powerless and would not have the ability to veto the legislation. That's the most frustrating part.

Also, I was seventeen during the election, so no, I didn't get to vote. You can bet I'll be as politically active as possible now that I'm a registered voter, though!

If it ends up on the ballot, I will vote against it.

He can't veto this type of legislation. That's why the Republicans went for a referendum. I think it's shameful and not very Minnesotan.

Sen. Dibble on gay marriage vote: ‘The GOP made a grave, grave mistake’

During three hours of debate, only Limmer and Sen. Paul Gazelka, R-Brainerd, spoke in favor of the amendment.

While we're at it, let's get a referendum on the Vikings stadium funding!
