Move up now and it won't seem so bad. You will acclimate like everyone here. If you move up in November-December; it will seem cold all winter long.

I really think that that is part of why Minnesotans don't seem to mind the colder temperatures; we gradually become used to the temp as it changes.

Hey Ya'll thanks for the info....I'm not coming up until Jan. 1 (brrrrrrrrrrrr)-but I'll come prepared! Most people in this part of the world (including me) don't own real shoes, much less a coat! But I'll do some shopping!

We moved to MN in December and lasted 11 months. Too cold and gloomy. Your summer is only 2 months then your back into your coats. No thanks.

I think 2 months is a slight exaggeration.

I've lived here all my life and am now looking at Tennessee for my retirement home. We're going there in either Feb or March to check it out. I'm excited....The weather will probably be totalling different than in MN and it will take some getting used to but I need a change even if it turns out to be temporary.

So, what do you think? Am I nuts to pick TN?????

You are not nuts. Many people are starting to pick eastern Tennessee for retirement. It will not be bad if you can adjust to the southern/appalachia way of life and not as many lakes. I would highly recommend renting for maybe a year or so until well after the 'honeymoon phase" is over to know if it is really where you want to stay. I am not at retirement age, but have been moving around the southeast for some years, have not liked it in comparison to MN and am now on my way back.
