Does this term not mean anything to people in MN?

You don't see that sign very often on our highways!

How fast do you plan to go?

Those are fightin' words for some people!

It's true, there are some "Slower Traffic Move Right" signs on our roads, but there is no general state law requiring slower traffic to drive in the right lane. When driving on the Interstate highways in outstate Minnesota, better driving practices and courtesy should compel most people to drive in the right lane. On expressways, there are many left turns, so some people drive in the left lane in anticipation of an upcoming turn. The highways and byways in the metro are free game. There are left exits all over the place, which requires even the slowest driver to drive in the left lane. Not ideal for sure.

Before everyone starts to complain about everyone else's driving, and we've all seen our fair share of bad drivers (whether too slow, too fast, too cautious, too aggressive, too old, too young, unknowledgeable, entitled, etc.), we all have to drive on the same roads. I try to treat people on the roads the same way that I would if we shared the same sidewalk in downtown Minneapolis. It helps to keep things more personal and less contentious.

I'm a Minnesotan, and I faithfully abide by the "slow traffic on right" rule (and encourage others to). Good point about the left-hand turns, however. I think we have many more of those than your typical region.

No. Minnesotans are the worst drivers I have seen in the five states I've lived in.

Well, to be fair, I guess I do not know about Minnesotans generally, so change that to my experience in the Twin Cities.

Guess you have never been in the Memphis metro. Horrible drivers and about half have no insurance and no license.

Nope, can't say that I have, honestly. But traffic here is, in my opinion, worse than Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, and Detroit, among others.

People just seem oblivious. I see way too many cases of people riding 60 mph next to each other on a three lane (each direction) road, with traffic piled up behind them, and a mile stretch of open space in front of them.

Inevitably, the moron in the left lane then shifts all the way to the right lane across traffic in about 1/8 of a mile to make his exit.

I would agree that traffic in the cities seems worse than Chicago

If slow traffic were to keep right then 99.999% of all drivers would be driving on the right!
