I'll admit, I've never been a warm weather person and always prefer the colder months of the year. But 60 below? That's cooooooooooold friend!

It is cold!

But remember that's the record, so it's not like it gets that cold every single winter. However, it does hit 20 below just about every winter. Even the mildest winters ever recorded it still hits -20 for a few days. A normal winter would have many weeks of 20 below, even a few nights of 30 below...people who grew up there don't really consider it "cold" until it hits 30 below. That's how I am now. I see 20 below zero as just normal or typical fair. No big deal.
So it is cold, but don't let that scare you too much.... if you really like outdoor sports, or learn to like them, and dress properly, winter can be as much, if not more fun, than summer. Or you could just hibernate all winter, but what's the fun in doing that?
Enjoy your bike trip up north, but definitely be careful. Snow is definitely not unusual come October, but it could also be 70 degrees, or both within 2 days time....so dress in layers. it just depends on the year. Have fun!
