Detroit is a prime example of what happens when a city is dependent on a single industry while a super powerful union strangles that entire industry to death. And it didn't just start in the last few years. I remember seeing a comedy movie from the '70's where a guy gets "taken to Detroit", kicking and screaming "No no! Anything but that!" Don't get me wrong. I'm not against unions in general, as there are many great unions in the country. But they're generally the ones nobody has heard of. UAW and a few others makes them all look bad. |
