Kizziebird: Sounds like you need to sell via a website and/or do the craft show circuit. If your items are small enough to be shipped without any great trouble, a website could be the ticket, for a few hundred dollars you can probably get one up and going (I'm not in the website biz, my estimates may be way low).
Storefront businesses are very expensive due to rent and utilities. My pals back in MD run a hobby shop and that monthly rent is hard to cover. They have to sell a lot of toy trains to make enough profit to pay those bills.
As far as the craft show circuit, we had one back in the DC area called Sugarloaf Mountain. They went all over and they had artisans from all over the country. Many of their shows are juried and the items found at those shows were not cheap. We have a lot of pottery from those shows. We always saw fabulous items at Sugarloaf shows, not just that "country cute" stuff the hobbyists do and try to sell. There are many other craft show operators besides Sugarloaf.
Myself, I'm in the market for a wall hanging of some sort to help fill a 1.5 story-high stairwell. Possibly a weaving of some sort. I'd go as big as 4-5 feet wide and up to 8 feet long. Something with a southwest motif. I can find rugs like that, but not something fit for a wall space. Any advice is welcome.
