Can anyone offer me any information on the Pipestone, MN area? I am interested in what kinds of job opportunities there are (mainly aiming towards manual, blue collar job). Is it really far in the middle of nowhere? Any info would be helpful.

Pipestone is a town of about 6000 people or so, give or take a thousand. Job opportunities might be slim but there are some businesses there that would use manual labor--Pamida stores, etc. It is about 40 minutes to Sioux Falls, SD and about 45 minutes to Marshall, MN. Both of those towns would have much better job opportunities. Just curious, why Pipestone?

Pipestone's newspaper is the Pipestone Star, website is here:
Pipestone Star Online It has jobs listed there in the Classifieds. The bigger newspaper for the area is the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, website is: Argus Leader Media - Sioux Falls, SD You might also be able to find jobs listed there that are located in Pipestone or close to there. They have a boat manufacturing plant (Bayliner), a meat processing plant (Ellison), and Suzlon Rotor Corp. just opened up a windmill plant and is looking for people to work there. Edgerton is not far from Pipestone, and Fey Industries is located there. There are probably more jobs than that if you are willing to do the labor. Last edited by swanee; 09-25-2007 at 09:21 PM. |

Wow - Pipestone is a cool place due to its being the home of the famed catlinite "red pipestone" used by the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota and traded throughout the Indian trade routes...The region is in the middle of nowhere, but has some magic to it. At your age, you're going to know everyone in the town in 2 weeks. So long as you don't mind real quiet and very small town, Pipestone might be the place.
