Possible relocation, any and all help appreciated!!
Hello, I have searched many of the posts in this forum and have got some good information however I or should I say we still would like to get some more information from people that are or who have lived around rochester.
Wife is a cardiac RN with 4 years experience. She is currently in the early stages of interviewing with the Mayo Clinic. This week should find out when we will be coming up for the face to face interviews. I am an EMT/Firefighter who will be looking to also get into the mayo, then further my education. everything looks good at the hospital will be a vast improvement from here in western pennsylvania.
The weather does not bother us as my wife likes the 4 seasons and would much rather be cooler than hotter. I go all winter here in shorts except for the extended periods of time outside. I know we will need to dress for the weather however that will not be a problem for us.
The school systems seem to be top notch and that is one of our biggest points to address as we have 2 children 11 and 8, both are advanced and actually get bored with the school system in now. Any and all imput you would have on the schools in and around rochester would be great, we want to check them out when we do come up for the interviews.
Where would you guys and gals recommend that we check out to actually live. We are not the party animals anymore and usually like to sit home and watch movies, take bike rides, skate, both roller and ice, play a little golf and of course FISH!! We get along very well with others and are very open and honest. Would like to be not too far from shopping as this is another pass time of ours.
Any information or recommended places that we need to check out and drive by or through when we are interviewing would greatly be appreciated. Also any info about the actual costs of living, we have done some research and it actually looks like overall it would be a little cheaper to live there than here in pennsylvania.
Thank you in advance for any and all the information that you give us.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge of Rochester will post, but so far your research seems right on. I know Rochester is growing at a healthy rate and they have an excellent reputation for schools (and obviously health care!) Just wanted to say good luck in your move and welcome to MN

Thank you Midnitebreeze and swf1979, and we can't wait to become part of Minnesota.
The more research that we do the more excited we get. We can't wait untill the interviews so that we can look around.
We will let you know how everything goes.

One of the ways the Mayo Clinic retains their excellent staff is to be located in Rochester. I know a few MD's there who say they could do much better in their careers if they wanted to move. They don't.
I personally like the north side of town because it is more convenient to the Twin Cities. There are also some small towns that are easily commutable to Rochester. Oronoco, Pine Island, and Zumbrota are all an easy twenty minute or less drive down Highway 52. You will not have any difficulty finding good places to hunt or fish.
