Jeez. Small town terrorism... in Minnesota? Although I can't help but wonder if the plot could have been worse than they are letting on.

Media playing the "terror card". Whether it was that or not is up for conjecture. As for his possession of firearms, welcome to reality. The firearms black market makes a joke out of the laws. They are useful when you FIND someone having them who can't legally do so. But preventing greedy sellers from making money in violation of laws is pretty much impossible thanks to NRA and the industries producing the arms. So you could probably do this story thousands of times if the police were funded well enough to chase down everything.

Well, I guess I don't really have an opinion on it yet, but they had pre-gathered intelligence from local, state, and federal law enforcement suggesting a terror plot and they found explosives (pipe bombs) in his mobile home. It wasn't just the firearms. Also, the media didn't just call it a terror plot, the FBI said it in a statement. I don't know. There isn't exactly a whole lot of information though. My only thought it, if he really was plotting a terror attack, was his target really Montevideo or is the FBI just conjuring up a story to make it sound less severe than it could have been? I don't know. Either way sounds plausible.

Sure "we're just the messenger, don't blame us". But the job of the media is to PROCESS input to present a factual case. To simply publish a release and wrap things up is way short of what good journalism has always been. Truth is that our media is always slanting things, as it did with the Vikings stadium. So I consider every story a potential slanted story. They are never "just the messenger".

Well the FBI did call this terrorism. What should the media be calling it?

It sounds like the guy was a disgruntled, anti-government-type. Whether or not he would have been successful is another question, I suppose. They seemed to think he was going to commit crimes in the Montevideo area. I wonder what those targets would have been...not exactly high-profile bombings, that's for sure.

As for the guns, the man's father says they're his. So this wasn't so much the black market as it was dad giving the felon guns, probably to spit in the face of the gub'mint.

Yet another source of guns for crazy people. I seem to remember Adam Lanza's mom had guns around his house, too. What can society do when family members have no concern for anyone unrelated to them?

I heard that one of his potential targets was the Montevideo PD. I can't remembrr where I read that, though.

So when some guy stalks a woman who is resisting his advances, is that terrorism?

What was most concerning is that she feared the government was coming for her and her family, had a lot of very dangerous guns that weren't locked, and knew her son had mental health issues (at least according to reports). If she hadn't been killed by her son, I would absolutely be advocating she be locked up for negligence resulting in nearly 30 deaths.

I wonder what percentage of guns are used on strangers and what percentage are used on family and acquaintances. I'm betting on the latter myself. So much crime is between people who know each other.
