It seems like some people assume that anyone from a family with a higher income than their own is automatically a bad person that looks down on them.
It's usually the wannabe's that have the attitude.

I understand where you are coming from. I went to Hill Murray and we got a lot of the same unwarranted treatment. A lot of people don't understand that most of these kids don't come from well-off families, the parents just make the financial sacrifice to send their kids to these schools because of better educational opportunities (which was the case with my family). However, in terms of this thread, I think people were addressing the attitude that seems to come with living in Minnetonka, which was highlighted by someone earlier telling the OP to choose Minnetonka just so their kids could say they grew up there. It is the same attitude that seems to be common with Edina, Eden Prairie, Woodbury, and Stillwater, as well.

Well, I do think the percentage of poor kids in Minnetonka proper is pretty small. That being said, one probably can't predict family background for a given student in a suburban school. Kris Humphrey went to Hopkins, but I wouldn't assume his folks were rich. I'm betting he got some help to attend the school due to his superior athletic skills.

His grandparents started five guys.

His grandparents? How do they figure in this story? Some tragic accident wiped out his parents?

I think his parents just own some MN franchises. Five Guys was started in Virginia and his dads name doesn't match any of the sons of the founders.

Oh, you meant to capitalize the F and G. Without that, the sentence made no sense.

I wonder what effect that would have on my kids, going to school with a lot of the more "privileged" kids, especially when my kids rock up to school in their Honda civic

I'm sure there will be areas of Minnetonka that will be less privileged, more down to earth and hopefully more multicultural.

I'm not giving up on Minnetonka just yet, just have to wait and see all that it has to offer when we get there.

gtc08 where would you recommend?

a nice diverse area where your kids can grow around people with different backgrounds that is near to anything you want would be shakopee.

shakopee is one of the real nice cities with a population that is less than 75 percent white. still some open air out there too. mystic, canterbury, valleyfair nearby and way lower prices then minnetonka.

if im raising a family and want to stay long term, shakopee is where you should be.

I would say that Maplewood would be the best bet if diversity + safety + good schools is most important.
