possibly looking to move somewhere in MN
I am thinking about trying to start over somewhere else, just me and the kids. I am wondering if it is possible to find a 4 bedroom rambler (or 3 bedrooms and an office) with at least two bathrooms, permanent siding, attached garage, laundry room on main, and a finished basement, all for under $100,000 somewhere in MN. I would be able to pay cash for it if we would sell our current house, and would like it to be more around $80,000 to $90,000 to allow for moving and other expenses. I don't want a lot of upkeep, that is why I want permanent siding, and I need at least 3 bedrooms because I have a son and a daughter. We need space because my children are in the autism spectrum. Maybe a foreclosure? Somewhere where I might be able to get an office type job close by, I have general accounting clerk experience and was a bookkeeper, receptionist, do it all in the front office person in a small business before I had kids over 16 years ago. I am probably just dreaming, but I feel I really need to be checking into this right now, as my current living situation with my husband is not good for me and the kids, and I don't see him making it easy for us and just leaving us be in the house we currently live in. That means we would have to start over. Thanks for any input anyone might have.

There were several hits for houses that came up but they were in Minneapolis. I don't really know what parts are good or bad...but have you maybe thought about saving the 100k and renting for bit to get more settled.
Best of luck!

Now that was not too nice, as I stated that I may be dreaming, so I know it is going to be hard to find what I am looking for. That is why I asked about foreclosures. And, being I don't care where this house is located (only that there may be a job close by), there are a lot of smaller towns that may have just what I am looking for. I just need some help on where to look, and at least I took the first step to ask for others' help so we can maybe make our lives better. If you knew my situation, you would not be so quick to post a remark like this. I already feel bad enough for the situation my kids and I are in, and my kids are really having a hard time with the idea of even moving away from the place they live in now and love. So, in order for this to even work, I have to find something comparable to what we live in now, especially with the kids being in the autism spectrum. Change is hard for them. I also need the rambler type because I have health issues that make it hard for me to do steps sometimes, so I am looking out for the future. So, if you don't have anything to say without being a smart aleck, please don't reply to my post. Sorry to be so defensive here, but I have already been through enough to last three or four lifetimes, and I don't need more. I just need some ideas of where to look. Thanks, and sorry to offend you if I did.

You might be able to find a house in your price range in small towns in Western Stearns County. (also in Western MN)
it may involve a long drive to your job, however.
Yes, buying a foreclosed house is your best option, but please check closely
A person got evicted a week ago. They left in the dark. The neighbor asked if they had drained the water pipes--------she replied--" No, and there is enough propane in the tank so the furnace can run til mid nite"-----------it was sub zero that night.
Who knows how long before that mortgage company in Texas checks the house and notices the finished basement is covered in water from busted pipes.

You could find something like that in most outstate areas (outside the metropolitan area). I have an affinity for Duluth and Winona. They may not have attached garages, and most houses in that price range are older, but if you look hard enough there will be something livable in that price range. Anything in The Cities will be in a rougher area. There are some that I would live in; but I don't know your comfort level. There are some satellite cities of Minneapolis like Farmington, Shakopee and Hastings that have cheaper housing in their older areas. The best of luck.

Look in to Marshall MN, in SW MN. THere are several major employers where you can easily find a job, the housing market would allow you to find the home you want, and you will have a nice, smaller town with good schools for your kids. It is the kind of town where your kids can ride their bikes to the pool, friends houses, etc. SOme of the smaller towns around Marshall will have homes for sale in the $50,000 range even, but the schools are pretty small and might not have the services you need.

I believe posters who state she will have no problem finding a house that matches her criteria didn't read her criteria---------4 bedroom, rambler, attached garage, permanent siding, main floor laundry, ---------------AND at LEAST 2 bathrooms------------FINISHED BASEMENT
after reading her post over, I would say she will have a difficult time finding that house anywhere in Minnesota unless she drops MANY of her criteria.

She may have a hard time finding a house that---matches all her criteria---for under $100,000 ---anywhere in the entire United States.
