Anyone know anything about Warroad?
Hi,
I am in one of those moods where I would like to relocate. For some reason I am liking the idea of Warroad. Anyone know anything about it, also job opportunities around there? I know it is cold there being it is only 6 miles from Canada. Anything else I should know (schools, businesses, etc.) I have a daughter with autism and need to also know how the Special Ed program is there.

The major employers in the area are Marvin Windows, Polaris snowmobiles and Johnson Brothers hockey sticks. Also tourism wth Lake of the Woods nearby (great walleye and muskie fishing). I'm not sure about the schools other than they're known for having a good hockey program.

I was born and raised there, still live within 22 miles, work is marvin windows, (modified swing shift),there's a care center for the elderly, and other typical town employment...has several active churches, a newer school,as for special needs... not sure about that , I know Roseau Mn., 22 miles west has a focus and ODC.The roseau county area transport buses from warroad to roseau daily, depending on childs age of course.. living in a small town is what you make of it, if you want to be involved and part of the community, you'll meet alot of people and friends and will be kept active. Don't let the cold weather discourage you, you just dress for it, and look for each new season, Lake of the woods is awesome for fishing both winter and summer..

I am also interested in learning more about Warroad MN. More about the current issues and changes that Warroad has been experienceing. If anyone out there has anything to tell me, it would be much appreciated. I am currently doing an indepth analysis of Warroad and am in need of a little 'local incite'....

I visited once, and I must say it is a small town with a big heart. People who live up there are very friendly, easy to talk to and get along with. They welcome anyone who passes through, and with the cold, like they had posted earlier you have to dress for it, and you will be fine. It is a great little town with Lake of the woods not to far off, nice streams up that way. We had a great time, and thanks for all the nice people up that way. Good luck on your search, I know it doesn't help a whole lot, but just wanted to add on how nice everyone was up that way.

There's going to be lots of mosquitoes up there. If you're from out-of-state, you might think you're used to mosquitoes, but I bet you haven't seen it like that. I grew up in northern MN, but also lived in TX, IL, VA and CT, and spent a bit of time in MT, so I know a bit about this. Those places are practically mosquito-free by comparison. Haven't spent time to speak of in Florida or Alaska, both of which also claim plenty of mosquitoes, so I can't compare to there. On the positive side, no roaches, termites or rats, very few poisonous things.

Im looking to move to Warroad in the next 4 - 6 months. How hard is it to get a job at Marvin Windows, Polaris or any other major employers? And what can i find a place to rent or rent to buy for. I have never moved out of state before. And wanted to kown how to find a place to live with out a job, or finding a job with out a home address, these may seem like stupid questions to some but i've never done anything like this before.
Thanks

Wow! Three posters here talking about moving to Warroad! Holy Moley; a virtual population explosion will be happening in Warroad this fall!
It is a nice small town; do get involved in the community activities but don't tell them how to do things or how much better it was where you used to live. Most small town folk get really annoyed when newcomers do that; but they appreciate it when you get involved and do things their way.

Warroad is a great town. The real thing. I'd say do it. One of the healthieast 2500 person towns in the country.
