I've used Sun Country, Cheap Caribbean, AirBNB, FlipKey, VRBO all with satisfaction.

For mini escapes to the tropics a visit to any large greenhouse, the MN Zoo or a weekend in a hotel with a well-appointed pool/spa room will perk me up.

If you can find a good deal on flights, Hawaii isn't that expensive. When I lived in San Francisco, my trip to Hawaii cost less than my thanksgiving trip back to northern Minnesota. However, I rented an AirBNB and bought most of my food at the grocery store, whereas when I visit MN I have to make it up to Two Harbors and stay at a resort.

It rained a lot when I was in Hawaii, so if you want guaranteed sunshine a place in the desert might be a better bet.

Yes the airfare is around $600 per person. But the lodging can be a lot more affordable than other places. I rent a vacation home. Just set your budget and see what you can find.

Two weeks in Hawaii beats out 4 weeks anywhere else in my book. ;-)

We typically escape to Florida in the winter. CHEAP airfare, a ton to do, the ocean is available should you want it, and really, all I ask for in a mid-winter vacay is palm trees...of which there are plenty.

With my Southwest Rapid Rewards we are getting there and back for $400 total this winter. That would be for 4 of us

AndreaSoup, where do you stay, how much does that run? When I have looked at Florida the lodging is so expensive and how can you know when it's a good place?
