The WI town I am trying to find in MN is Lakewood, WI. I will describe Lakewood and hopefully you can help me find a town like it here in MN

Population of the town is 850 but with the two nearby towns (10-15 minute drive away) is 1600.

Deep in the woods (Nicolet national forest)

There are a handful of lakes in the 150-400 acre range with great fishing. Recreational lakes in addition to fishing lakes are a plus

The lakes have a sandy beach

There are good restaurants or bars on the lake (not necessarily boat accessible)

Has a family owned grocery store and hardware store with no chain stores

Has good hole in the wall bars with friendly service and delicious food

Everyone owns a four wheeler and sled and there are nearby trails to ride them

There is affordable wooded property (under $40k) with electricity and hook up possible (2 to 5 acres) that I can clear the way I want to fit my retirement home.

The town has year round locals but gets heavy cabin traffic on weekends and holidays

Not very commercialized by bigger businesses

A town where everyone knows everyone

Very lively town deep in the northwoods

Hopefully someone can help my find my new cabin country in MN.

Not if you want forest.

I don't know much about it, but what about Pathfinder Village on the edge of St. Croix State Park? It's privately owned rather than a town per se, but it's about the best suggestion that comes to mind. Certainly forested as MN goes.

Though I don't necessarily understand why the OP is looking for an equivalent in MN. Looking for a vacation/weekend home but living in the Twin Cities?

Pathfinder Village doesn't seem right for a hunyuck getaway cabin, but that general area looks like a match. I have not spent any time up there, though.

I grew up in Green Bay and came here for college and never left. Townsend was less than a 2 hour drive from GB and we had a place up there growing up.

To me, it seemed like an idyllic cabin town and I'm looking to purchase property for a cabin and want to get that feeling back again. I live in Maple Grove and would really like something that is under 3 hours away.

Thanks for all of your help so far.

If one can be in Bemidji, Ely or Finland in a little over 3 1/2 hours from the Northern Metro, then you should easily be able to find something 30 miles closer, although I think you will find the ban of alcohol sales to children and infants more stringently enforced than in Wisconnie.

pathfinder lots are only 60 foot diameter circles, HOA fees, etc., not at all quiet in the summer.

why the need to be out of WI? danbury is close to pathfinder, small, lots of ATV trails around but certainly not "deep in the north woods".

webster? again, in wisconsin and i've not been there so......
