If this possible? Any ideas? About 20 people from Norwegian, Swedish and Danish backgrounds. Some German descended people too.

Some are lacto ovo vegetarians. Some gluten intolerant. Some vegan.

I thought the Scandinavian Smorgasbord would be a good idea. Is this possible? Any ideas?

Also, deserts?

There are older people who no longer eat red meat for health reasons.

I don't make or eat lutsfisk. There will be some there that will want it. I can't handle it.

Thanks guys.

I'd fake an illness and go see a movie or hit the casino instead.

Have a variation on the potluck where everyone brings their own food and beverage. Or take Ghengis' advice and hit the casino instead. Honestly, this sounds just miserable.

For years we had a variation of a Scandinavian smorgasbord for our vegetarian Christmas Eve meal. It worked just fine. We had good bread, some good cheese options (gjetost is a favorite), good jams, and toppings like sliced hard boiled eggs, cucumber slices, etc. You put it all out and people make their own open faced sandwiches. Although with the gluten free people you may run into problems. You could add in some sardines or herring for the fish eaters.

There are lots of gluten free breads so that wouldn't be an issue

Ghenghis made me laugh so hard. Only because I completely agree with his proposed strategy.

Scandinavian food is normal. There are just a lot of people who are gluten intolerant, are old with high cholesterol, like that lutefisk, enjoy Aquavit and vodka, are in college, are Lutheran, like herring, beer, beets and cabbage.

That fish and lye dish made me puke when I was six. I'll never touch it, try it or be near it. Lutfisk.

Smoked salmon comes to mind. Sweet and sour cabbage. Beet Salad. Limpa bread.

People are either too old or too young to help with food.

I fall in the middle. So that leaves me.
