I will be moving from Arkansas to Minnesota for graduate school at UMN. Since I want to attend UMN as a full-time graduate student to get my M.Ed Degree in Special Education: Teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students, I am not seeking a job. However, I recently got my B.A. Degree in History with Arkansas teaching licensure specializing in Social Studies Education (History). Just in case I want to work as a teacher in MN while attending graduate school, I wonder if I would be qualified to get the job with Arkansas teaching licensure.
I have an additional question. I happen to be very influent in American Sign Language since I have a deaf brother. Another question is: Can I also be able to teach at any deaf schools while attending graduate school for M.Ed. in Deaf Education even though I do not have teaching licensure in teaching deaf students yet? The reason why I am asking these important questions is because some states do allow either teachers with just B.A. Degree along with licensure to teach or a teacher who knows sign language to teach without a specific degree and licensure in Deaf Education? Any information you have for me would be very helpful and I would deeply appreciate it. Have a great day tomorrow! |

MN doesn't have reciprocity with any other state for teacher licensure. You will need to complete the requirements for a MN license to obtain a teaching license here. It is possible you already have the required coursework though. Generally in MN your degree would be in Social Science so your BA in History might not be enough. I just depends on what your transcript holds.
Some districts do have programs for teachers coming in from other states to teach while getting what ever they need to get a MN license though. Usually you have to complete the requirements in a year or two. The problem with that is most of the metro schools don't need to do that since they have plenty of applicants for every position. It is possible to get a job at a private school without a teaching license however most accredited private schools won't hire someone without a license. What you might want to look into is being an interpreter for a district or several districts. You would probably be assigned a student or two and follow that student through out the school day and interpret for them. The best thing to do is contact the state licensing department and get started on your license right away so you will know what you need to do. </title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/mdeprod/groups/webassets/documents/web_asset/css_subpage.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="groups/webassets/documents/web_asset/css_teachersupport_banner.css" /> <style type="text/css"> #shadow_1:before { con |
