If you love being in the woods hiking on trails, be on the alert of woodticks, because they are here again

Nasty blood sucking suckers.

Did you find one on you?

I got Lyme's disease about 10 years ago.

Yeah, its that time of year again.

If I can buy Frontline to put on my dog once a month why can't I buy something similar to put on myself once a month? We go walking in the exact same places.

Sprays don't seem to work. Does someone have some folk recipes that are tick deterrents for humans?

I live in tick-Central and this stuff works great, for clothing only but survives repeated washings...

Repel® Permethrin Clothing and Gear Insect Repellent Aerosol | Repel

Yeah, permethrin can't be beat (ticks literally die on your clothing), but people should be aware that it's really bad for your eyes, your cats, or any aquatic life (major fish kill).

Sounds great, but I maybe don't want to grow a third leg out of my belly button.

I was thinking more along the lines of garlic or orange peels . . .

I hardly ever spray it in my eyes, on my cats or on fish

There's an area of woods in southern Missouri near the Arkansas border that the military has roped off and are keeping people from entering because of a new type of tick that has been discovered. These ticks are as big as dinner plates and can drop from trees and glide thru the air until they attach themselves to a person's back. They then can suck the blood thru clothing and the victim usually passes out from the amount of blood that is taken. Scientists are not sure where these ticks came from or if they are located in any other state or how large they can get but they are concerned. You have just read the possible making of an urban legend that I just made up. It's late here and I can't find anything else to do.
