Anyways, I would hardly put Texas and Minnesota in the same category in terms of pride and bragging. I've yet to see all the "Minnesota is better than every other state" bumper stickers in some form or another. Maybe they exist, but they must be rare. We've all seen the ones for Texas. I've lived in Texas, and can attest to the condescending attitude towards pretty much every other state. Minnesota is nothing like that at all.
Minnesota is one of the nicest places I've ever visited. It does seem to be like what a lot of other places used to be... or at least how the old-timers remembered it. I hope it never changes, never becomes beaten down and jaded like so many other places have become.

I think that a sense of pride is mostly a good thing. Most people seem to have that in some way no matter where they live. As evidence, one simple question will almost always get answered happily - where are you from? People love to be asked that question.
Thanks for the nice words about MN.

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I have lived for as long as a year in other states and couldnt wait to get back to Minnesota. We just dont know how lucky we are living in Minnesota compared to some of the other states. The quality of life is so wonderful.

Then, perhaps you need to get out and about more. My dad left MN and went to CA one year, since he worked construction and was laid off for the winter.
He went to the employment office at McDonald Douglas aircraft. A guy that was doing the hiring that day was looking through the applications and called my dads name. There were at least a dozen guys sitting in the office waiting.
The guy told my dad he was hired and then said, he'd noticed he was from MN and he'd hire anyone from here any day of the week.
My dad had absolutely no experience in the job he was applying for and even that didn't seem to matter.
I've also had friends that went to Florida and got hired, simply cuz they were from MN and the work ethic here is pretty well known.

I don't think I ever realized just how great MN was until I got online. Up till then, it was always just 'home' and..it was OK.
Meeting people from other parts of the country has really opened my eyes to just what we do have here, and how special a lot of it is.
I learned that benefits and services I've always taken for granted that everyone had, was not really the case.
Then of course, reading all the reports about how we stack up as far as education, health, crime rate etc, sure doesn't do anything to diminish my pride in MN.
I didn't even know we are as good are we are till I got online and found out.

May be the weather plays an important role
Agree. I have seem the family values are appreciated greater in MN compared to other places. Work hard is ok, but not sure whether MN has harder or hardest worker. Workmanship is ok in my opinion. Apart from that, for sure something special is there in MN that keeps me back here. May its what you mentioned in the original post. Atleast I am happy to see this state gives lot of importance to educations and children compared to other states.

I was born and raised in Minnesota and then moved. I felt that people are people wherever you go. I've discovered I was wrong. The quality of life in Minnesota is very high in comparison to Colorado, California, Texas etc. The pace of life is generally much more laid back in Minnesota, people may be more reserved but they respect other people's privacy, there is more community spirit and better road maintenance. Minnesota is a great state and the residents work hard to make it that way. To all you Minnesotans out there "good job!"; you deserve to be proud of your state. Oprah Winfrey had Prince on her show and she asked him why he lives in Minneapolis, he said "It's so cold it keeps the bad people out".

LOL...I'm always a little afraid of braggin' too much about MN to my online friends. I seriously like our wide open spaces and I wouldn't want a whole lotta people moving here.
Every time I find myself going a little overboard about what a great place this is to live, I always add the caveat about our man-eating mosquitoes.
