Question Northfield MN

Can anyone give me some first hand information on Northfield MN? I am planning on retirement in the next couple of years, and am looking for something outside of the Twin Cities metro area. I have driven through Northfield and it impressed me as a pretty town with a small town atmosphere, but with colleges there, a young population also.

My DH grew up in Northfield and it would be a great place to retire. My in-laws are retired and keep plenty busy there. There is a good mix of ages in town but you will find plenty of other retired people there. It is an easy town to get around in and they have pretty much everything you need on a daily basis there.

Northfield is basically what any small town aspires to be. Its main street is vibrant and historic. Saint Olaf and Carleton bring a young and educated population. it hasn't been swallowed by Minneapolis; so there is still alot of country around it. A great place to retire.

I agree with the earlier posts. Beautiful hills and trees, pretty town, colleges provide sports/entertainment options. Isn't Macalaster there as well?

No, just Carleton and St. Olaf. Macalaster is in St. Paul on Snelling Ave--it can easily be confused with Carleton though .

Northfield is beautiful - economical too.

Carleton College reminds me of Princeton U, minus the lions of course...

Oh, and Chapati's downtown in the Archer House - best Indian food around!

Robert

who are these folks kidding??

Half the folks in Northfield stay on the "hill". The college folks rarely come off.
The downtown is adorable....but not the most business friendly folks at all. You can wait in line for ever till you end up walking out. (duh)

as far as retirement....as long as you have deep pockets and lots of friends to come visit or help you. Not the most friendly town. Look at Chaska or neighboring communities or just lie and say you left and returned. They have some great townhomes and condos.
