Default Detroit Lakes -- what's it like?

What is the City and area of Detroit Lakes like? I know it's a small town with many small lakes in the area and houses on the lake. Is it an expensive, upper class area or is it possible to find inexpensive lake houses there? Does it have much of an economy to speak of?

Moving Somewhere is on a distinguished road
Mostly a resort town. Any lakeshore in MN is pretty expensive, but now is the right time to buy. I'm not sure what you call expensive, but there are lots of lakes in the Detroit Lake area, I'm sure you'd be able to find some land or re-hab an old cabin to make it a nice home.
