I have not spent any time, really, in Southwestern, MN (am in South Western SD now). It is harder to gather good information on small places, which is why I am here. Per housing: Are there decent rental options in Morris? It seemed that most vacancies I found online are either restricted by income or simply intended for college students. Per employment: is it the sort of town where positions are listed in print or online, or do they exist more by word of mouth? I know unemployment is low, but also didn’t find much online per jobs outside the few major employers. Would there be much opportunity for home care workers (elder care, people with disabilities, perhaps child care, etc.) in a city so small? Could someone expect to use the public transport option the city has for both a job and groceries, or is the ride setup not terribly flexible or frequent? And, lastly, “Winters”: I realize it is relative to your cold toleration, but I have heard/received contradictory accounts of winter there – though some of these accounts may have been remembrances from many years ago. What have the last 4-5 winters been like (here in SD, maybe the warmest in as long as anyone can remember)? Using the climate data per this website, does that seem like what norms have been like in Morris, or is the wind a big factor much of the year and not really accounted for in the average daily high/low? Thanks for any input.

I live in a small town near Morris. I have relatives there.

It is basically a small college town. Rental units are mostly for students and generally of poorer quality IMHO.

Employment like most small towns will be mostly word of mouth. Everybody knows everybody's business in a town this size. Elder care jobs may be more in demand with "The Villa', the local rest home and I believe several assisted living complexes.

Public transportation consists of the city bus. I'm not familiar with the hours of operation.

Winters? Being at the very southern end of the Red River Valley wind is a consideration. Blizzard areas begin near Morris and go north into the valley. More so than areas east and south of Morris.

Civilization drops off fast west of Morris. Younger people in Morris go to Alexandria for shopping. The ONE local grocery store keeps prices high because of its monopoly. I lived in Morris for about a year in 1982. Would I move back there? Probably not. Hope this helps.
