Hi, all - new to this forum... Contemplating a move to Red Wing, MN but I'm not sure about living that close to the nuclear plant on Prairie Island. I did a bit of research and there are some studies showing correlations (not causation, I acknowledge, but still...) between residence in proximity to a nuclear plant and higher rates of diseases like leukemia...

Does anyone on here live there? Any thoughts about what it's like? Did you consider the Prairie Island question at all in your decision to move or stay there?

It wouldn't concern me. I am unaware of any data indicating an increased occurrence of cancer based on proximity to nuclear power stations in the United States.

At any rate, swim-bike-hike, I'd say your odds of drowning or being killed while riding your bike - or even of falling off Barn Bluff - far exceed the odds of you being killed by Prairie Island.

We took a one month vacation there in Red Wing.
Checked out after 1 night.
If the nuclear waste cooties don.t get ya, the backassward attitude of the townfolk will.

I have lived in Red Wing for a year and a half, and i work at Treasure island Casino, which is literally down the road from Prairie Island. There has never been any nuclear disasters there, the odds of it happening are so small. They told us the radiation there is no more than what you get from your wifi.
