We're moving to Hibbing, MN in August and from what I see on apartment rental sites there are only a couple apartment complexes that take cats. Unfortunately none are showing availability.

We have a cat and my husband and I are looking for somewhere with a garage under $700. Those places don't have a garage. What can I start doing now to find a good place to live in Hibbing where we can take our cat and has a garage? We are only planning to stay in Hibbing for a year.

It doesn't have to be an apartment, it can be a house, but we don't want to live with anybody or rent a house that's more than $700/mo. We would also like washer/dryer if possible and AC.

Any tips or resources are appreciated.
Thank you!

HI -

I used to live in that area. Your best bet to find housing there is not to check on-line sites but instead to:

1) contact Realtors in the area.

Perella and Associates Perrella & Associates "Home Page"
Village Realty Property for Sale (Homes, Waterfront, Commercial) - Village Realty
Iron Country Realty Full service realtor located in lovely Chisholm, Minnesota. Serving areas around the great Iron Range encompassing Lake Vermilion and the amazing Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
Vermillion Land Office www.vermilionland.com
(There are others, but these are the main local ones)

2) Read ads in both the Hibbing Daily Tribune http://www.hibbingmn.com/ and the Mesabi Daily News virginiamn.com | Mesabi Daily News | News, Sports, Obituaries, Classifieds in Virginia, MN and the Iron Range.

There is a fairly large amount of available housing stock in that area so you should be able to find something to rent, especially via the Realtors. You are more likely to find a small house than an apartment in an apartment building. Condition may be an issue, as that is the state of housing in that area.

Just convince them that you are the most responsible renters ever, keep the house and yard immaculate, and tell them you only have one cat.

Good luck!

Oh, PS: You will NOT need A/C except for about a week in August, so don't make that an issue in your search.

601's advice covers a lot but I would add that you should put out an ad of your own in the local paper stating what you are looking for, which really isn't all that much honestly. Perhaps someone who isn't even advertising might have something you could use.
