I live in north central Iowa and have thought about moving to Rochester because I am frequently up in Byron to work with my trainer for horseback riding. There seems to be a lot more job opportunities up that way, and Rochester is bigger without being too big.

However, people keep telling me that Rochester has gotten very dangerous, with shootings every day and lots of crime. I haven't paid too much attention to the news to know for sure, so I thought I would pose the question here: Has the crime rate gone up this year in Rochester? What areas are bad? And what is going on? I thought Rochester was relatively safe.

Its pretty darn safe. I guess it depends on what you are used to. But I find it very safe. Even if crime tripled, it would still be pretty safe

According to the link, the crime in Rochester isn't bad at all.

Are you sure these "people" didn't think you were talking about Chicago, IL as opposed to Rochester, MN??

As someone who has a more accurate gauge than most on violent acts in Rochester, you maybe have a noteworthy stabbing/shooting less than once a month. As for those stabbings/shootings that don't make the news or make it to the hospital, who knows but even those are probably few and far between. Rochester is either on par or far less in terms of crime for a city of 100-200k, meaning it's not bad at all.
